INTOFashion Masterclass May 2015: The Road to Head of Design

INTO Fashion’s latest workshop was both inspirational and motivating as successful designer Julie Cooper spoke about her career.

Having 30 years of experience as a designer for brands such as John Lewis, Marks and Spencer’s and Next, Julie reflected on what led to her success and how best to access the industry. From having a compelling CV, to keeping a portfolio fresh, the importance of looking in the right places was also stressed. These resources included Drapers magazine, In Design and Denza in addition to LinkedIn. Having secured a sting of successful design roles, Julie shared ways in which to impress in an interview. Through extensive brand research and small design projects it is evident that being proactive and innovative is the best way to approach a role.

Furthermore Julie highlighted the absolute power of perseverance and not losing sight of your goals and that securing a job is about your work as much as it is your personality and attitude.
