Fashion Awareness Direct is a charity which is committed to helping 13-25 year olds into fashion through workshops, mentoring and education.
The 2013 FAD Junior Awards took place at Fashion Scout at The Freemasons hall, sponsored by George as part of its commitment to supporting young talent.
Throughout the year nearly 100 16-19 year olds from inner-city boroughs of London took part, with the 20 finalists showing their designs on the catwalk, creating their collections in a mere five days to wow the panel of judges.
Some of the designs were outstanding, you could easily have mistaken them for looks from Louise Grey or Katie Eary. The most outstanding pieces included a yellow backless jacket given a 3D twist with a matching perspex wrapping, teamed with a skirt cut in a tiger print triangle with yellow plastic side panels, and a navy jumper with a diamond white peter pan collar with matching cuffs.
Louise Ibak from George at Asda presented the award to who she dubbed the ‘clear winner’, Beau Scarlett-Pitt, who created a stunning printed dress with a black feather cape adorned with a white shirt collar. The show showcased the incredible work the charity does to educate and guide young people to a career in fashion.
