FAD ‘Stitch-In’ at the Knitting & Stitching Show

New East London Embroiderers

Last week FAD were very lucky to be hosted by Twisted Thread at the Knitting & Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace. This incredible event, celebrating all things textiles related, saw over 50,000 visitors pass through the Palace’s majestic doors in just four days.

Getting to grips with split stitch

As well as showcasing the incredible garments hand embroidered by 14-19 year olds from East London, FAD and the New East London Embroiderer volunteers were busy running free ‘stitch-in’ workshops for young visitors.

It was an incredible experience, from teaching whole school groups and college students to showing six year old novices and their mums how to get to grips with a needle and thread.

Each visitor created a small embroidery of their own design, using the same English heritage stitches featured in the New East London Embroiderers garments. FAD then photographed their design for a 3D paper dress gallery, which was also on display at the show.

Here are some pictures from the Alexandra Palace ‘stitch-in’. You can also see more of the inspiring hand stitched embroideries created by our visitors here.
