Learning to WALTZ: FAD & Trapstar

Be Inspired
FAD was delighted to be asked by London-based social enterprise, WALTZ, to run a careers driven workshop for young people from schools in Southwark.

WALTZ teenagers with London streetwear designers ‘Trapstar’

The young people involved, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, spent two weeks with WALTZ at the end of the summer term experiencing different industries and careers through one-day workshops and activities.

FAD ran two of these workshops setting teenagers the task to design and customize a t-shirt inspired by the brief ‘Fashion Active’, looking to the London 2012 Olympics and sporting muses for their inspiration.

Thanks to our super networker, Varsha, FAD managed to secure a visit from entrepreneurial designers Mikey and Will of London streetwear brand Trapstar, who came along to talk about their experience of school and working in the fashion industry.

Mikey and Will talked candidly about not always doing well in school, but are also a shining example of how hard work, talent and determination can lead to great things. Starting off with a t-shirt stall at a London market, their iconic brand is now sported by the likes of Tinie Tempah, Rita Ora and Rhianna. Needless to say there were lots of questions for the designer duo, who proved a great hit with the teens taking part in the workshop.

Thanks to all the volunteers involved and a particular thank you for Mikey and Will for taking the time out of their busy schedule to share their experiences.

If you would like FAD to run a similar one day workshop at your school or community group please email info@fad.org.uk
