Graduate Fashion Week: FAD & George

2012, FAD Projects, Fashion Futures
FAD reports from Graduate Fashion Week 2012, where lots of exciting projects have been taking place between FAD and sponsors George at Asda.

As well as sponsoring Fashion Futures 2012, George at Asda are now in their second year as headline sponsors of Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) – the largest showcase of fashion graduates in the world.

George’s dual commitment to young talent came together this week at GFW 2012, as they unveiled a dedicated space to FAD on their sponsorship stand at the event.

FAD teenagers featured in a wall of photos and garments from two FAD restyling & customising workshops, while mannequins modelled dresses by three finalists of the ‘Best of British’ Dress Design Competition.

Saying how ‘thrilled’ she was that George were working with FAD she presented a delighted Shermmaine Telan, 16, from Clapton Girl’s Technology College in Hackney with the gold prize for her jubilee inspired gown.

All three received a George voucher, and overall winner Shermmaine was also presented with a VIP ticket to the Graduate Fashion Week Gala show on Wednesday evening – a highly coveted prize!

Two students were also selected for the FAD & George at Asda Journalism Prize, Randa Kherba, 16, and Stephanie Akpackly, 18. The budding journos will spend a day with the PR team this week reporting on shows and writing for the George Style Blog. Look out for their write ups coming to the FAD blog later this week.

Lastly George designer, Kausar, who has been the driving force behind FAD’s involvement in Graduate Fashion Week, announced the launch of the FAD & George Mentoring Scheme.

Ten very excited and nervous students met with their George Industry mentors for the first time – before heading off to talk one on one about their future careers and discover the delights of Graduate Fashion Week shows with their mentors.

All in all it was a fantastic and inspiring day for FAD and 15 of our Fashion Futures 2012 students! For more images from our day at GFW 2012, click here.
