In our last post from Fashion Futures 2012 workshops, FAD blogger Varsha reports on events at the Manchester jury day.
The Fashion Futures 2012 jury day in Manchester showcased designs by over 20 teenagers from Salford City College and the Manchester College. The young designers presented their work to an industry panel on Friday 20th April, with the hope of securing themselves a place in the 2012 FAD Junior Awards at London Fashion Week in September.
Industry judges Jane Rogers and University of Salford designer Richard Thorner, joined FAD Project Manager Reyes Lora to select 5 talented students to go through to the FAD Summer School in July.
For a week prior to the jury day the teenagers worked extremely hard on their designs, supported by a team of industry volunteers and University of Salford tutors. The finished garments were fantastic. Drawing inspiration from ‘Great British Design’ they ranged from jumpsuits and cupcake shape dresses to teabag embellished designs.
The 25 young finalists of the 2012 FAD Junior Awards will be announced on 21st May at a very special FAD celebration. Look out for the results coming soon. In the meantime for more information about the Fashion Futures 2012 project please visit our website: www.fad.org.uk.
