Over 100 hundred young people aged 16-18 years old have been involved in Fashion Futures 2012, attending Saturday workshops in North and South London over the past 10 weeks. Sponsored by George at Asda, the project aims to give young people, especially those from less advantaged backgrounds, a realistic insight into the fashion industry.
50 teenagers were based at Hackney Community College with FAD’s Educational Projects Manager Joanne Matthews, freelance tutors Hannah Jordon & Jenny Fuller and a bunch of very dedicated industry volunteers. On jury day FAD Executive Director, Maria Alvarez, was joined by Lucy Moller, Designer at River Island and Narinder Leon, Designer at Marks & Spencer to take on the difficult task of selecting just 10 of these talented young designers to go forward to the next stage.
I’m sure you will agree that the standard of talent, especially considering their age is phenomenal. The results of the jury day will be revealed on 21st May, when the finalists of the 2012 FAD Junior Awards will be announced at a special celebration at the Fashion & Textiles Museum in London.
See below for more pictures from North London and look out for further posts from South London jury day and Manchester Industry Day coming soon!
