Fashion Futures 2012: Visiting George

FAD are over the moon to be sponsored by George at Asda in this year’s Fashion Futures project. As part of this exciting partnership, we teamed up with George to organise an industry visit to the retailer’s London HQ for 100 teenagers currently taking part in London workshops. Here’s a sneeky peek.

We were met by members of the George Design team who had travelled down especially from the main office in Lutterworth for the workshops. The designers started by giving an overview of their role within the company and how garment production works within George. Using examples they talked through the process of creating a garment, from buying samples and researching trends, to putting together a whole clothing range and creating spec sheets to send to factories overseas.

After a quick Q&A session, the George team then set FAD’s budding designers a challenge of their own – to choose and develop one trend for high summer holiday. Working in teams the teenagers collated images from a wide selection of fashion and design magazines, editing them to represent mood, colour palette and fabric designs. Some teams even produced sketches of their own range of clothing inspired by their trend boards. The finished results were then presented to the industry experts, and the teams were rewarded with a box of chocolate goodies, from Asda of course!

Look out for the blog piece about the industry workshops coming soon to the George Style Blog. Thanks to George and all the designers who took part in delivering the workshops!
