Our second post from the Fashion Futures 2012 jury day comes from South London, with 50 teenagers from schools & colleges across Bexley, Croydon, Ealing, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Wandsworth competing for a place in the 2012 FAD Junior Awards.
Laura-Jane Logue, 16, St.Philomena’s & Jakita Fleming, 17, Saint Franis Xavier 6th Form College
Industry judges Niki Groom, aka Miss Magpie Spy and Nicola Bailey joined FAD Project Manager Reyes Lora to select 10 talented students from south of the river to go through the next stage of FAD’s Fashion Futures 2012 project.
Over the past 10 weeks the teenagers have been working with industry volunteers from the likes of Coast and Karen Millen, alongside an experienced team of fashion tutors at Lewisham College in South London.
The results are some really innovative takes on this year’s brief – ‘Great British Design’, with fantastic finished toiles ranging from cutwork jackets and voluminous skirts to streetwear looks.
The young designers will join FAD students from North London and Manchester on 21st May at the Fashion & Textiles Museum in Bermondsey, London for an evening of celebration and to discover which talented teenagers will be this year’s Junior Award finalists.
